Exploring the use of Aromatherapy for You and Your Animal Friends -
Taught by Kelly Holland Azzaro, RA, CCAP, CBFP, LMT

Exploring the use of Aromatherapy for You and Your Animal Friends This workshop will empower those wanting to learn about the therapeutic properties of essential oils and botanical bases and how they can be used safely with and around their animal friends. Students will learn how to incorporate the use of aromatics for emotional and physical well-being. Learn to ‘tune-in’ to the power of scent based on animal communication while being mindful of your animal friend’s sense of smell and the importance of working as a team.

Included in the presentation will be easy-to-use information applicable for skin and minor wound care, fear-based behavior and for use during times of grief and transition. The information is focused on use with animals, but is also applicable for human aromatherapy. With the rise of the use of essential oils with both humans and their animal friends, it is important to be mindful of safe use with everyone, but even more so with animals. This workshop offers both an easy and safe way to incorporate aromatherapy or hands-on self-care.

Students will receive:

 Educational materials and handouts.

 Access to a PDF of Hydrosols for our Animal Friends.

Farming the Woods and the Woodland Edge - Taught by Alexander Meander
of Ardea Homestead Sanctuary

Through the lens of local ecology and permaculture, this presentation will introduce and elaborate on the concept of Forest Farming and its potential for homesteaders and small-scale growers of temperate North Carolina. Special consideration will be given to understanding how the forest edge can fit into a forest farming venture. A diverse overview of potential yields will be given, including native medicinal herbs, foraged goods, tree crops, forest-grown mushrooms, and craft goods. We will also discuss aspects important to small-scale market ventures, such as value-added products and supplying local restaurants and breweries. Various forest products will be available for tasting and viewing. Alex is a hands-in-the-dirt forest grower and homesteader, drawing much of his experience for this presentation through his work on the Feralwood project at Ardea Homestead Sanctuary. Come with questions!  Cost: $40  4:00 - 5:50 p.m.
